How to Buy Status (SNT)

Facebook Messenger meets Ethereum through Status, a decentralized application that allows users to access Ethereum’s ecosystem on a mobile device. Status is a messaging platform and mobile interface that puts decentralized apps on the Ethereum network in the palm of users’ hand.

So will Status grow to be the next decentralized social network?

It can, but it wants to be more — think socio-economic network. Users will be able to:

  • Send, receive, and save money
  • Create an eWallet within Status
  • Have their own encrypted and mobile identity to make digital interactions more secure

The platform has the means to make a serious impression in the decentralized community, so let’s get you set up with some SNT.

Create A Coinbase Account

Before buying SNT, you will first need to purchase some Bitcoin or Ethereum. You can purchase the coins from Coinbase, but if you’re having problems accessing it, try going through Coinmama. The steps will be the same for both wallets. Do you have some BTC or ETH already stored in your wallet? Well done, feel free to skip ahead to step 2.

Set Up A Binance Account

We will be purchasing our coins through what is called a cryptocurrency marketplace. Buyers like yourself gather here and use BTC or ETH to buy other coins. For today’s tutorial, we will be using Binance, but be aware that there are a variety of marketplaces where SNT is available for purchase. Open up an account with Binance, then move on to step 3.

Send BTC or ETH to Binance

Don’t feel intimidated by this part, we promise it’s not as complicated as it might look. All we need to do is move our BTC or ETH from our Coinbase wallet to our Binance wallet. Simple stuff, and here’s how to do it:

  • Hit “Wallets” on Binance
  • Locate “BTC” or “ETH”
  • Hit “Deposit”
  • Copy the address string
  • Return to Coinbase
  • Press the “Accounts” label on Coinbase
  • Find your BTC or ETH wallet & select “Send”
  • Place the Binance wallet address into the Coinbase recipient address bar
  • Fill out the respective amount you want and send them on!

You made it, great! If you’re still confused on how to do it, below are some screenshots describing the process using ETH for reference:

Purchase Status (SNT) on Binance

We can finally purchase SNT now that we have our BTC or ETH in our Binance wallet. You will need to locate the “Markets” tab and search for the BTC/MOD or ETH/MOD market. Once you’ve found the market, you can choose a price per coin, an amount you want, and then make your purchase.

And we’re done! If you’re still confused by this step, below is a screenshot outlining the components of the page:

Calculate & Store Away

Great job purchasing some SNT! You get to decide the next steps. Some choose to go back to the marketplace to purchase other coins while others let their cryptos sit in their wallet — the choice is yours!

What else so I need to do?

Nothing, you’re done! This process can be confusing, and we’re here to help you through it. If you have any questions, feel free to send them our way in the chat window to your right.
