How to Buy Power Ledger (POWR)

The future’s looking bright for Power Ledger, the first block-based energy trading platform seeking to bring cheaper, cleaner energy to your next door neighbor.

The decentralized app utilizes peer-to-peer trading so that people with solar panels can trade their excess electricity to their neighbors. This is accomplished through a trade unit called “Sparkz,” which is backed by blockchain bond called POWR tokens, the cryptocurrency that fuels the platform.

What if I don’t own solar panels?

Don’t worry, you can still participate on the platform! The beauty of Power Ledger is that it allows those who traditionally could not afford solar panels, the ability to still have access to cheaper, cleaner alternative to energy. And, after conducting a test trial, the team found that:

  • It’s cheaper for the consumer to buy from Power Ledger than pay for their traditional energy company
  • Those with solar panels received a successful return by selling their excess energy

The app is scheduled to go live in 2018, so let’s brighten up your day by purchasing some POWR.

Open Up A Coinbase Account

Let’s begin! Purchase some Bitcoin or Ethereum through Coinbase. If the website is not letting you in, try buying the coins through Coinmama. The steps are interchangeable. If you have previously bought some BTC or ETH and have them stored in your wallet, move ahead to step 2.

Open Up A Binance Account

In order to buy other crypto coins, we need to go through what is called a cryptocurrency marketplace. Today, we’ll be using Binance, but know there are other marketplaces where you can purchase POWR from. Once you have an account, you can use your BTC or ETH as your main currency for purchase. Establish an account with Binance and move ahead on to step 3.

Send BTC or ETH to Binance

All we’re going to do here is migrate funds from one wallet to another. We promise it’s not as complex as it appears to be. Follow these steps to ensure a smooth delivery.

  • Press “Wallets” on Binance
  • Look for “BTC” or “ETH”
  • Press “Deposit”
  • Copy the address string
  • Return to Coinbase
  • Press the “Accounts” tab on Coinbase
  • Locate your BTC or ETH wallet & tap “Send”
  • Paste the Binance wallet address into the Coinbase recipient address bar
  • Fill in the amount you want to rollover and then send it on!

If you’re feeling lost, check out the screenshots below. They illustrate the process using ETH for reference:

Purchase Power Ledger (POWR) on Binance

We are now able to buy some POWR! Locate the “Markets” tab and find the BTC/POWR or ETH/POWR market. Once you have found the market you want, fix your price per coin, how many coins you’d like to purchase, and then finally buy!

And that’s it?

That’s all, folks! If you’re still confused by this step, use this screenshot below for reference. If you’re still confused, see below.

Decide & Deposit

You just bought some POWR — wonderful! The rest is up to you. You can let your cryptos sit in your wallet (they’ll be safe there), or you can head back to marketplace to purchase other coins now that you’re getting the hang of this. The decision is yours!

Is there another step left?

Nope, there’s not! We hope we answered everything for you, but if we left anything out, don’t hesitate to send us your questions in the chat window to your right!
